Then the cosplayers follow their moves on a life-size shougi board. Watch as the cosplayers role-play their characters and battle against each other in determining the shougi champion!

Cosplay Shougi now has signups open for cosplayers interested in being shougi pieces! No knowledge of shougi is required.

Maid Cafe

This otaku attraction commonly seen in anime and J-dramas such as "Densha Otoko" is being brought to Youmacon! Our con suite will be converted into a cafe-style setting Friday evening of the con so you can be served in style by our very own maids and munch on pastries and drinks with our guests.

To reserve a spot in the first hour of the Maid Cafe where you can meet and hang out with our guests, you must do one of two things: purchase a Platinum membership badge, or purchase a reservation for US$10 (CDN$12) at the convention's cosplay signup table. Space is limited, so please make sure that if you want in, you don't waste time signing up. For the second hour of the cafe, there will be no charge to enter, but there is no guarantee you will meet a guest at that time either.

View our Maid Cafe FAQ for more information about the cafe and answers to common questions.

Anime Hell

An Infernal Celebration of Bad Film

Take a mind-bending trip down a two-hour time tunnel plastered with brain-defying audio-visual..umm...stuff. From around the world and out in the back yard, our experts have collected and selected only the choicest short subjects, fake ads, weird commercials, unintended stupidity, out-of-context humor, and pop-cultural insanity, chock-full o' nutty goodness. You'll never know what we'll show next. Warning: Contains Heino.

Midnight Madness

You have left Hell and are entering Madness. A celebration of the "best?" in the world the insanity known as Anime Parody Dubs. Fan dubs, where people dub their own voices, sound effects, edit and invent new stories using existing anime footage, has been around for over twenty years — and we've seen some strange stuff come down the pike since then. Pineapple salad, "stuff and junk and stuff", melons, coffee, the Megumi Hayashibara game... Nothing is sacred, and that's the way we like it. We'll be showing the best and brightest well into the night. Come ready to laugh; the power of Gendo compels you!

Anime Name That Tune

This classic, brought to you by Zephyr Game Shows, takes eight audience members and enters them into a single-elimination tournament where quick knowledge of anime music (and the occassional video game piece) makes or breaks your chances for big prizes. Audience members will also be eligible for prizes and Super Cool whenever the contestants get stumped like a nun in our hentai game show! Also, the winner from Youmacon will be invited to compete in the "Best of the Year" Championship where they will square off against many conventions from the Midwest through the east coast to determine who is the year's anime song guru!

Otaku Family Feud

After all, "The family that bathes ever, stays together!"

Amateur Anime Stand-up Comedy Contest

Bring a friend up there with you for kicks! It's all for fun so no need to be shy, give it your best shot!

Kung Fu Demonstration

Take an up-close look at the ancient Chinese martial system made famous by the late Bruce Lee with the ass-kicking action from one of Detroit's premiere martial arts schools. An ancient and deadly system, this was the martial art that was taught by the Shaolin monks to the resistance fighters that protected the Chinese people against an oppressive dynasty. Gain an appreciation for the Ving Tsun style's grace and stunning efficiency. Unexpected power, soft hands and hard strikes characterize the Moy Tung Kung Fu family's traditional and effective presentation of the art. This demonstration will be lead under the direction of Grand Master Moy Tung, a disciple of the late Moy Yat, one of the first Grand Masters to bring Ving Tsun to the United States over thirty years ago.
