Maid Cafe FAQ
- Is this Hooters/Chippendales for Otaku?
- If seeing people dressed nicely or in frilly dresses gets you hot and bothered, well, more power to you. No clothes will be removed during the event period, sorry.
- Are the maids/butlers going to act fanservicey for me?
- Other than calling you Master or Mistress as they do in Japan's Maid Cafes/Host Clubs, no. If you ask nicely maybe they'll play a game of cards with you or chat with you, but we are not going to be flashing panties, kissing or otherwise acting like a bizzare otaku strip joint or Host Club popular to anime. We're keeping it professional here, Youmacon is a family-friendly con.
- Why such a high price? Why can't it be free?
- The price you're paying goes towards reimbursing those involved and towards convention funds for future events. Think of it though, ten bucks for unlimited snacks, drinks and an hour for private time with the guests, that's not bad. You could just wait until the first hour is up for it to be free, but there's no gaurentee you'll meet the guests then.
- I want to work in the Maid Cafe, how can I do it?
- You can PM me to express your interest for a staff position in the cafe, and I will send you a small application to fill out.
- I'm still not convinced that this isn't just a boy friendly event.
- Never fear, there will be boys on the staff as well as girls. We're trying to combine the elements of both a Maid Cafe and Host Club to appeal to both genders.
- Will there be b33r?
- I can not stress this enough-NO. You are not allowed to bring in booze either.
- I like maids
- Good for you, just remember that if you make any inappropriate advances towards any of them(which includes inappropriate comments and inappropriate photos), staff can and will have you escorted out.
- Can I leave a tip?
- If you'd like. It's not required as we are a free event, but the maids and butlers do appreciate any donations for their work. ^_^
- I didn't get to meet the guests last year, why?
- There were a few communication errors with last years event, but the guests did get up and walk around to speak with people. The plan is to have them do this again, so if you want to speak with them, either go up to their tables and talk to them, or make sure you make eye contact when they walk around so they stop to speak with you!
- Can I get autographs?
- The guests may be nice and do this for you, but I am going to say no as a rule. There are autograph sessions later, please use the Maid Cafe time purely to socialize with the guests! Pictures will be allowed, but make sure you ask nicely first!
