Contest Rules
Attention all cosplayers! Youmacon's cosplay calendar is returning, and we need your photos!
If your cosplay is selected as one of the top 15, you'll become a month of the calendar and also get
a free 2010 registration. Here are the complete rules:
- Entrants must be cosplaying in the photos they submit, or be the photographer of the photo.
- Entrants must be either a prior attendee or staff member of Youmacon or pre-registered for Youmacon 2010.
- All photos must be in JPEG/JPG or TIFF format, large enough to be clearly printed on an
11"×17" (30 × 43 centimeter) page. 1600 × 1200 (2 MP)
pixels is the absolute minimum, but the bigger, the better (8 MP preferred). Don't enlarge or reduce images from their
original size. Edges will be slightly clipped. Any watermarks will be cropped out.
- If you are entering to be on a calendar page, your photo should be vertically aligned. If it does
not have an aspect ratio of 11×17, it will be cropped. The calendar dates will cover a portion of
the photo.
- If you are entering to be on the calendar cover or back cover, your photo should be horizontally
aligned. If it does not have an aspect ratio of 22×17, it will be cropped.
- The picture should be as focused and sufficiently lit as possible on its own (unfiltered).
Images that are too dark or too bright may not be feasible for printing. Any filtering or retouching will
be done by us if deemed necessary for printing.
- Entrants may submit up to three photos, but will not win multiple prizes.
- Cosplayers may not appear in the calendar more than once.
- Photographers may not have more than three of their photos in the calendar.
- Winning photos from last year's calendar are not eligible to win again, but winners are welcome
to submit other photos.
- Original costumes and characters (e.g., Gothic Lolita) are permitted.
- Photos may be modified and enhanced, but all parts of the composition must be property of the cosplayer
and/or photographer.
- By submitting pictures to the contest, you certify that Youmacon has permission from you, all
persons in the picture, and the photographer of the picture, to print the photo in the Youmacon 2011
cosplay calendar.
- 75% of the judging score will be costume quality, and 25% will be photo quality.
- The winners will be selected to encompass at least one of each of the following:
- Anime and/or manga cosplay
- Video game cosplay
- Costume that is neither from anime nor video games
- Photo that was taken at/during Youmacon
- Photo of or taken by a Youmacon staff member
- Each winning photo will be placed on a page of a calendar to be sold at Youmacon 2010. Prizes will be
awarded to either the cosplayer(s) or the photographer(s), whichever side submitted the photo first.
- Individual photo winners will receive a complimentary 3-day registration or a refund of their
pre-registration to Youmacon 2010.
- Group photo winners will each receive an equal portion of a $45 cash prize.
- Youmacon staff are eligible to be selected for the calendar, but are not eligible for other prizes.
- We reserve the right to cancel this contest if we receive less than 14 quality entries.
- The contest ends Monday, August 31. Winners will be notified via e-mail in mid-September.
Information reguarding submitting your entry will be coming shortly.
