Personal Protection Policy



Many attendees have asked as to the precautions that we are taking for this year’s event. With the current rise and spread of the Delta variant of Covid-19, we are highly encouraging attendees to get fully vaccinated prior to the convention this fall for the general safety of everyone attending. At this time the TCF Center is requiring masks of all people in the building, and we are awaiting word back from the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center regarding their event space. We are dedicated to keeping everyone safe at the convention, and will continue to monitor CDC guidelines leading up to the event. This may change closer to the convention, and we will reiterate our stance as we enter the fall.

Youmacon is one of the largest Anime conventions in the US, and traditionally brings in attendees from all across the country, and previously from all over the globe. If you are sick at the time of the convention or show signs of illness or Covid symptoms, we ask that you refrain from attending. When it comes to masks, we encourage those attending to wear masks that are comfortable yet effective. To this effect, we are asking that bandanas and neck gaiters not be used, and mesh/sheer masks are not allowed as acceptable protective gear. We understand that wearing masks for extended times can get tedious, and we recommend that you bring several with you to help enhance your comfort throughout the event. One recommendation is to invest in a silicone inner support frame to be worn under your mask. These are relatively inexpensive and are made to ensure that you have ample breathing space by keeping the fabric away from your mouth. Another thing to consider is to wear a mask that is not only comfortable, but expresses yourself with the design and style of your mask.

Be creative with your masks. We want you to have fun with this, which is why we are also announcing that a mask contest is currently in the works. Thank you so much, and we look forward to seeing you this fall.

As of 10/15/2021, we will be requiring either a proof of vaccination or Negative PCR Covid test (up to two weeks before the event) to participate in the Saturday night dance or guest interactions. We will have staffers in both the Registration area and the Multi-ops room (found on the Michelangelo room on the 4th floor in the Renaissance Center) that can provide a sticker to your badge to indicate that you are verified.
